A half-day trip to Doi Suthep, the temple mountain above Chiang Mai, twice a day. This Doi Suthep tour goes up by van, with no hike: first Wat Pha Lat beside its waterfall, then the naga stairway and the golden chedi.
We pick you up where you stay at 08:00, free in the Old City, Nimman or Night Bazaar areas, and drive to the foot of Doi Suthep and up the mountain road. There is no hike: the van takes you up. Your local guide is with the group the whole way.
The first stop is Wat Pha Lat, a small temple on the mountainside beside a waterfall. A stream runs over the rocks between the old buildings, and from its terrace you see Chiang Mai through the trees. It is quiet here; you have 20 to 30 minutes to walk around before we drive on.
Then we drive up the mountain road to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Carved naga run along both sides of the long stairway, more than 300 steps up into the temple. It is a living place of worship above the city, not only a sight, so we move quietly.
At the top stands the golden chedi, with a gilded parasol beside it and carved roofs on every side. Legend says an elephant carrying a relic climbed the mountain and stopped here, and the chedi was built on that spot about 600 years ago. Please dress with shoulders and knees covered.

Good to know
How much walking is there?
Not much: there is no hike, the van takes you up the mountain. At Wat Pha Lat you walk around the temple for 20–30 minutes, and the stairway up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep has more than 300 steps. We go at the pace of the group.
What should I wear?
Shoulders and knees covered: both temples are living places of worship. Shoes with grip for the temple stairway.
Can children come?
Yes, with an adult who books a seat for them. Children 3–9 pay the child price where the trip has one, otherwise the adult price. Under 3 travel free on a parent's lap; tell us in the note.
Is food included?
Water and a light snack are included. Have a meal before pickup: breakfast for the morning trip, lunch for the afternoon.
How long is the trip?
Half day. The morning trip picks you up at 08:00 and is back around 12:00. The afternoon trip picks you up at 13:00 and is back around 17:00.
Can we go private?
Yes. A private trip is just your group, priced per person as the group day: at least 4 adult prices, up to 10 guests. We send a car or van and confirm within 24 hours.
Cancellation?
Free until 24 hours before pickup; later than that, no refund. You can book until 30 minutes before pickup; a booking made after 18:00 the day before has no free cancellation. If the group does not reach 4 guests by 18:00 the evening before, we cancel the day and refund you in full.
